Giving Back - Greening Australia

Greening Australia is having a measurable and lasting impact on Australia’s unique environment, from the warm water of the Great Barrier Reef, to the cool island ark of Tasmania, they are working to ensure people and nature can thrive, by providing practical solutions to some of Australia’s biggest environment challenges. At Jessie Sue we believe, like Greening Australia that people thrive when nature thrives and that our personal, social and economic wellbeing are inextricably linked with the land and sea.  By restoring Australia’s fragile and diverse habitat and ecosystems, we can also restore local economies, creating healthy, productive landscapes where people and nature can thrive, mitigating the effects of climate change.

Great Southern Landscapes

Agricultural landscapes in southern Australia have lost over 80% of their natural habitat since European settlement having a big impact on threatened species and the productivity of farmlands.

Working across southern Australia’s unique landscapes to create productive and healthy landscapes for people and nature, by integrating large-scale re-afforestation and carbon sinks into farming systems, helping threatened plants and wildlife and combating global climate change.

Tasmania Island Ark Project

Taking care of our vulnerable endangered animals that are almost extinct on mainland Australia, the Tasmania Island Ark Project focuses on Australia’s critically endangered animals, such as the Tasmanian Devil, Eastern Quoll, Eastern Barred Bandicoot and the Eastern Bettong.

Working across the Tasmanian midlands with landholders to recreate 15,000 ha of habitat for this endangered wildlife, at the same time revitalizing local farming communities and reconnecting people and nature.

Reef Aid Project

Improving water quality on our Great Barrier Reef, working with landholders, communities and traditional landowners to restore vital coastal wetlands and rebuild eroding gullies across the catchment.

Australia’s Great Barrier Reef I home to:

  • 6 of the world’s 7 marine turtle species
  • One of the most important Dugong populations
  • 600 types of coral
  • More than 1,600 species of fish
  • More than 3,000 species of molluscs (shells)

In addition to this the Great Barrier Reef supports the livelihoods and culture of 70 Traditional Owner group and provides employment to some 70,000 people.

Thriving on Country Project

Traditional knowledge of Indigenous Australian’s plays and essential role in managing country and conservation, having managed our wildlife and landscapes for tens of thousands of years.

Across Australia, partnering with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, bringing together contemporary and traditional knowledge, by exchanging skills, increasing employment opportunities and providing support to people to work in country.

Nature in Cities

Working with amongst communities, and with business and government creating greener more livable cities throughout Australia.

Our connection and access to nature is diminishing with our rapidly growing urban landscapes, to the detriment of our environment and our communities.  2 out of every 3 Australians currently live close or in our capital cities and the numbers continue to rise.

The Nature in Cities project is engaging Australian communities to create greener, more livable cities bringing nature back to the urban fringes and cities by improving water quality in our wetlands and rivers; restoring urban tree canopy for wildlife and restoring natural ecosystems; building green corridors to create open space for recreation and to help meet carbon neutral targets.

Our Commitment

At the end of each month our contribution will be tallied and submitted by direct donation to Greening Australia, rotated through the five different projects.  Anyone wishing to validate our donation at anytime can do so by emailing me direct info@jessiesue.com.au.
